The present maze was a 19th century addition to the gardens. The design however dates to an earlier period. During the early stages of restoration it was discovered to be a distorted mirror image of the Hampton Court maze which was attributed to George London and Henry Wise. This is not surprising since London and Wise did a lot of work at Castle Bromwich at the end of the 17th century.

If you stretch it out into a rectangle and flip it over from side to side you will see that it matches the one at Castle Bromwich.
